OUR RANGE OF BSP THREADED FITTINGS

BSP stands for British Standard Pipe which is a family of technical standards for screw threads. These have been adopted internationally for connecting pipe and fittings by joining an external (male) thread with an internal (female) thread.

About

BSP fittings are among the most commonly used threaded fittings in New Zealand and can be found in a variety of industries, including food and beverage, pumping, petrochemical, marine, geothermal, agriculture, and machinery. They come in various metals and plastics and are found in everyday household items such as garden taps and plumbing fittings.

The Metal Company’s BSP fittings are investment casted and made of high-quality stainless steel 316, making them suitable for use in even the harshest environments, including marine purposes. Our comprehensive range of BSP fittings includes elbowsteeshosetailsbushes, reducing connectorssocketsnipplesplugs, caps, Mac Unions, and adapters.

Our standard range of BSP fittings is designed to withstand a working pressure of 10bar at 250 degrees Celsius and comes with EN10201 Type 2.2 mill test certificates. For applications that require higher pressure or temperature, we also offer our range of 3000LBS BSP fittings, which are investment casted to meet ASME B16.11 standards and are thicker and heavier to ensure maximum durability and reliability.

While BSP fittings are commonly used in many industries, it’s important to note that they are not considered hygienic due to the possibility of bacteria being trapped in the thread. Therefore, they are not suitable for food and beverage lines that require hygienic conditions.

In addition to our range of BSP threaded fittings, BSP is also found in many of our stainless steel valves, such as our ball valves, globe valves, gate valves, check valves, mini ball valves, needle valves, and sampling valves. Our BSP camlocks, flanges, and press-fit adapters are also widely used. Some of our press-fit fittings are available with one end press-fit and the other end BSP, such as our press-fit male elbow, while some press-fit unions feature a male thread on one end.

When working with BSP fittings, it’s crucial to use thread tapes to create a tight seal and prevent leaks and seizing. Thread tape acts as a filler, filling the space between the threads and ensuring a tight fit. As the sole New Zealand stockist of Blue Monster and Mill-Rose thread tapes, we offer three different types of thread tape, including Blue Monster PTFEBlue Monster Gas Guard, and Mill-Rose Nickel Anti-seize PTFE tape. We have another video discussing these available on our website.

Videos On BSP Threaded Fittings

What Are Negative Bushes? | Technical Tuesday

Negative bushes are used to connect pipes or fittings with different thread sizes. These fittings contain BSP threaded ends and are commonly used in plumbing and piping systems. Watch Morgan discuss.

RapidPress BSP Unions | RapidPress Rundown

In our RapidPress BSP Union range we have both the male and female BSP union’s available. Our RapidPress BSP Unions consist of three parts, the BSP end connection, a flat faced seal and the press end connection. Watch Patrick discuss.

Our Range Of 3000LB BSP Threaded Fittings

3000LB refers to the pressure rating of the fitting. These are an alternative to our standard BSP threaded fittings which are only rated to 150LB. Watch Max discuss the range we stock of these fittings and why they are a great option if you are wanting fittings for higher pressure applications.

Flat Faced vs Conical Faced Mac Unions | Technical Tuesday

Mac Unions have female BSP threaded end connections and are made up of 3 parts. The male part, female part and the nut. Flat faced and conical faced mac unions each have their own unique advantages. Watch Morgan discuss the difference between these 2 mac unions.

RapidPress Press-Fit System vs Threaded Pipe Systems | RapidPress Rundown

Watch Patrick discuss on this episode of RapidPress Rundown the differences between the RapidPress Press-Fit System and threaded pipe systems.

What Are BSP Adapters?

Our BSP thread adapters have been developed by The Metal Company to make installations quick, easy, and cost effective. We stock both Weld Nipple Adapters and Weld Socket Adapters to suit a range of different applications. Watch Morgan discuss our range.

What Is Special About Our Thread Sealing Tape? | Technical Tuesday

Thread sealing tape is commonly used in threaded piping applications to seal pipe threads and stop them seizing. Thread tape works as a filler, filling the space between the threads and creating a tight seal which helps to prevent leaks and seizing.

Why Are BSP Fittings So Common in New Zealand? | Technical Tuesday

BSP stands for British Standard Pipe and have been adopted internationally as they interconnect and seal pipes and fittings by mating a male thread with a female thread. Watch Huntley as he talks about why they are so common in New Zealand.

What Are Our BSP To Tube Fittings? | Technical Tuesday

BSP to tube adapters are used when connecting BSP with imperial tube as normal BSP weld nipples and sockets don't work nicely with imperial tube. We stock two different types of BSP to tube adapters. A weld nipple adapter (reducing weld nipple) and a weld socket adapter.
