Why Are BSP Fittings So Common In New Zealand?

BSP is an acronym for British Standard Pipe. British Standard Pipe is a family of technical standards for screw threads. These have been adopted internationally for connecting pipe and fittings. This is done so by joining an external (male) thread with an internal (female) thread.

They are the most common fittings in New Zealand and are found in a variety of metals and plastics across many industries. Even your standard garden tap at home uses a 15NB BSP Thread! Many plumbers’ fittings found in hardware stores and around the house also use BSP threads.

Typical applications for stainless steel BSP fittings include food and beverage, pumping, petrochemical, marine, geothermal, agriculture and machinery.

Our range of BSP threaded fittings are investment casted and have a stainless steel 316 grade which means that they are suitable for all environments including marine purposes. We stock a full range of BSP threaded fittings including elbows, tees, hosetails, bushes, reducing bushes, sockets, nipples, plugs, caps and Mac Unions.

Technical Tuesday: What Is Special About Our Thread Sealing Tape?

Thread sealing tape is commonly used in threaded piping applications to seal pipe threads and stop them seizing. Thread tape works as a filler, filling the space between the threads and creating a tight seal which helps to prevent leaks and seizing. Watch Huntley as he discusses our range of thread sealing tape and why it is so special.

Technical Tuesday: What Is An Expansion Flange?

Expansion flanges are used to close the gaps created in a wall or ceiling around a tube or pipe as it goes through. These are commonly used in food and beverage plants, coolstores or any applications where a waterproof, hygienic seal is required. Watch Vernon as he discusses expansion flanges.

Technical Tuesday: What’s the Difference Between EPDM, FKM & HNBR Seals?

EPDM, FKM and HNBR seals are used with our Press-fit system and have different purposes and properties. Watch Huntley as he discusses the difference between each seal to find out what seal might be right for your application.

Technical Tuesday: What are our BSP to Tube Fittings

BSP to tube adapters are used when connecting BSP with imperial tube as normal BSP weld nipples and sockets don’t work nicely with imperial tube. We stock two different types of BSP to tube adapters. A weld nipple adapter, also known as a reducing weld nipple, and a weld socket adapter, that was developed by The Metal Company. Watch Huntley discuss what BSP to tube adapters are.
