What Are Racking Plates Used For?

Racking plates are a part of our Cellar and Brew Fittings Range and used in winemaking industries.

These are used to separate liquids and solids when transferring fermented liquid from one vessel to another.

Racking plates are typically attached to a hose which is then attached to a vacuum pump. They are then placed on top of the sediment inside a tank so the juice can flow over the top, leaving the sediment in the tank and the juice being sucked out.

The racking plate consists of an inlet and a dish. The dish depth is 20mm and the inlet is below the dish edge which provides maximum results when racking. In the inlet, there is a series of holes which allow fluid to pass through and retain sediment or lees, ensuring a clearer and more refined product.

We stock racking plates to suit Butt Weld connections and with a Male RJT end connection. These are stocked in sizes 1 ½”, 2” and 3”.
