How To Measure Perforated Sheet

Perforated sheets are commonly measured by hole size, hole spacing, percentage open, and sheet size.

At The Metal Company, we stock two types of stainless steel perforated sheets, either with round holes or with slotted holes. The sheet size is a standard 1219 x 2438 mm.

Here is one of our stainless steel perforated sheets with round holes. This has 6mm holes spaced at 9mm intervals, and is referred to in our sizing as 6 @ 9. This results in an open percentage of 40%, which refers to the percentage of open area within the holes compared to the area of the sheet.

Our slotted perforated sheets are measured slightly differently, with the slot length and width, as well as the distance between slots long ways and width ways being specified. For example, we have a sheet with 20mm slots that are 3mm wide, spaced 23mm apart long ways and 6mm apart width ways. This arrangement results in a 42% open area.

We have different sizes available to suit many applications.

At The Metal Company, we sell perforated sheets by the sheet. However, we do have small 50x50mm samples of our perforated sheets available so that you can check if a sheet suits before purchasing a full sheet.
