Our Range Of NPT Threaded Fittings

NPT is a family of technical standards for screw threads to connect pipes and fittings

NPT stands for National Pipe Thread and is considered to be the American alternative to the original BSP thread which is from Britain.

The thread has been adopted by the United States and some associated countries. NPT is largely used in New Zealand when imported turn-key systems, pumps or fittings have existing NPT threads. This has increased in recent years. Common applications for stainless steel NPT fittings in New Zealand include gas lines, chemical processing, pumping and machinery.

NPT threads are not compatible with BSP threads. This is because they have a steeper thread pitch angle of 60 degrees and the peaks and valleys are square. Whereas the BSP thread has a 55 degree thread pitch angle and rounded peaks and valleys.

Our NPT threaded fittings conform with Manufacturing Standard ASME B1.20.1 and are made from Stainless Steel Grade 316. This is marine grade meaning it can be exposed to salt water or harsh outdoor conditions. The standard Pressure Rating for NPT fittings is 150lbs or 10 bar.

One particular item in this range that is extremely useful is our NPT to BSP adapters. This allows NPT threads to be converted back to a more common thread type.

We stock NPT Elbows, Tee’s, Sockets, Nipples, Hex Plugs and Hex Bushes and NPT to BSP Adapters in different sizes from ⅛” – 4”.
