Both are ferrous metals and made mostly from iron therefore look almost identical in appearance. Cast Iron is an iron casting with carbon content higher than 2%. Cast Steel is a steel casting with carbon content lower than 2%. Cast Iron has better corrosion resistance than steel. Cast iron is relatively easy to cast, as it pours easily and doesn’t shrink as much as steel. The higher grades of grey cast iron can withstand greater load and a degree of tightness or corrosion resistance.
