What Are Weld Neck Rings & How Do They Work With Backing Flanges?

Weld neck rings are circular discs that are welded to the end of a tube in pipelines.

The neck rings we stock are to suit Dairy Tube from 1” to 8” and also Spiral Welded Tube from 8” to 12”.  The distinguishing feature of weld neck rings is their elongated neck that extends out from the main body of the ring which you then buttweld to the tube.

Weld neck rings are used in conjunction with backing flanges and provide a secure connection between piping systems. The reason why neck rings are a popular choice for engineers is because they allow the flange to rotate meaning you can adjust the alignment and orientation of the flange at the time of install.

The weld neck ring is butt welded to the end of the tube and provides a smooth, flat surface for the backup flange to match with. The backing flange is then tightened against the ring using bolts, creating a strong and leak-proof seal. Installers tip, make sure you install the back up flange prior to welding the neck ring on.

Our neck rings are very strong and solid as we have these specially manufactured in Italy. Alternative neck rings can tend to be out of round and thin causing them to warp when welding which can create problems when installing.
